Gatens' 18 points help Iowa beat Penn State
Matt Gatens scored 18 points as Iowa beat Penn State 77-64 on Saturday. Bryce Cartwright and Aaron White each scored 17 for the Hawkeyes (13-11, 5-6 Big Ten), who won their second straight after losing five of their previous six games. Tim Frazier scored 23 points to lead the Nittany Lions (10-13, 2-8), who have lost four straight and seven of their last eight.

Sash has eyes wide open at Super Bowl

The rookie from Iowa was in the locker room, the victim of a concussion earlier in the NFC championship game. Instead of celebrating a Super Bowl berth with his Giants teammates, Sash watched on TV with about 15 people from Fox. He'll have a better view Sunday night. When Super Bowl XLVI kicks off, Sash will be on the opening kickoff.

Iowa's Printy out for season with ACL injury
Junior Jaime Printy will miss the rest of the season after an MRI exam Friday morning confirmed that the guard suffered a torn ACL in her left knee during Iowa's 85-79 overtime win at Wisconsin. This is the second injury to Printy's left ACL. She tore the same ligament as a sophomore in high school.

O'Keefe leaves Hawkeyes
Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe is leaving the program after 13 seasons. The surprise departure, which was first reported Friday by the Des Moines Register, leaves both coordinator jobs open at Iowa. Coach Kirk Ferentz is expected to name a replacement for longtime defensive coordinator Norm Parker next week.

History-making season continues for Meier
During a record-setting fall, Nate Meier made state history on the football field. Wednesday, he made local history off it. Meier became the first male from Fremont-Mills in more than 40 years to become an NCAA Division I scholarship athlete when he signed a national letter of intent with Iowa.

Senior Matt Gatens scored 18 points and Iowa rallied to beat Minnesota 63-59 on Wednesday night and snap a three-game losing streak. Devyn Marble added 12 points for the Hawkeyes, who overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half and closed the game on a 9-0 run. Ferentz keeps focus on newest Hawkeyes
For the second year in a row, Iowa fans waited for national signing day to hear coach Kirk Ferentz address a topic at least as pressing as his latest recruiting class. This time, Ferentz kept the focus on the 24 newest Hawkeyes. Ferentz on Wednesday refused to get into further details about the departure of running back Marcus Coker, who was suspended for last month's Insight Bowl for misconduct and has left the program.

Hawkeyes' Ott not only the Division I player from Giltner
Drew Ott made it official Wednesday — he's ready to jump from Class D-2 to NCAA D-I. The Giltner linebacker from the state's smallest class of 8-man football signed his letter of intent, moving up to the highest collegiate level. The Parade All-American signed with Iowa. At the same time, his high school teammate, Logan Rath, signed with South Dakota State of the Football Championship Subdivision.

Fremont-Mills star commits to Iowa
Nate Meier of Fremont-Mills made a verbal commitment on Sunday to accept a football scholarship offer from the University of Iowa. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound two-way starter led the Knights to their first Eight-Man state football championship last fall while rushing for 2,494 yards and 57 touchdowns. He also recorded 112 total tackles, including 34 for losses, on defense.

Hoosiers shoot past Hawkeyes
Freshman Cody Zeller scored a season-high 26 points to help No. 16 Indiana defeat Iowa 103-89 on Sunday night. Zeller made 11 of 12 shots and had four assists and three steals for the Hoosiers (17-5, 5-5 Big Ten), who scored more than 100 points in a conference game for the first time since defeating Iowa 110-79 on March 12, 1995.
