CONCERT REVIEW

Death Cab for Cutie brings orchestral tour to Omaha
By Kevin Coffey
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Death Cab for Cutie's show Wednesday kicked off with the swoon and swing of violins and cellos, not a fuzzed guitar tone or melancholy keys.

It was the Magik*Magik Orchestra, an eight-member string section led by Minna Choi, and as the orchestra played with the introspective indie guitar band, they changed a normal show into a sweeping experience.

This is the way this band is meant to be heard.

Ben Gibbard made his entrance with a curt wave to the near-capacity crowd of 2,200 at the Omaha Music Hall.

“Transcendence,” a sci-fi thriller about an attempt to meld the human mind with technology, falls far short of transcendence. So far short I had to fight off sleep.
