At least one person was injured in a shooting late Monday in south Omaha after a concert by rapper Tyga, according to Omaha police.
A witness reported hearing gunshots near 16th Street and Deer Park Boulevard and seeing a black van pulling a trailer. Police later found shattered glass and bullet casings in the area and identified it as the probable crime scene, according to the 911 dispatch reports.
The van's occupants called 911 about 11:30 p.m. to report that they had been shot at and were being chased. They drove to the fire station for help.
The victim was taken by ambulance from a fire station at 16th and Jackson Streets to Creighton University Medical Center in serious condition.
Responding police officers described about 10 bullet holes all over the vehicle, with the driver's window being shot out.
A fan who attended the concert at Sokol Auditorium said an audience member threw something on stage during Tyga's performance. Some heated words were exchanged. When Tyga continued his performance, a trash can was thrown, the concert attendee said.
A brief fistfight broke out as people left the building after the show.
Police said the shots were fired from a car as band members boarded their tour bus. More shots were fired from the car as it followed the bus and its trailer for a few blocks.
Omaha police have not yet identified the victim in the shooting, but rapper Honey Cocaine, who performed with Tyga in Omaha, tweeted Tuesday morning, “Got shot and I'm not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod.”
Tyga also tweeted on Tuesday, “Let's be clear them was haters not fans.My fans love me I love them.”
Tyga and Honey Cocaine were midway through the YMCMB Rack City Tour and were scheduled to perform in Denver on Tuesday.
