Dorothy and Glinda visit from Oz

A small independent film, "Dorothy and the Witches of Oz," is opening Friday at 20 Grand, 144th Street and West Maple Road, for at least a weeklong run.

Paulie Rojas, who plays Dorothy, and Noel Thurman, who plays Glinda, will appear at the 7:10 p.m. Friday screening and perhaps others this weekend to sign autographs and have their pictures taken with audience members.

The PG-rated family film follows the exploits of a grown up Dorothy, a children's book author in New York City. Though she has repressed her memories of Oz, she learns that her writings are coming from those memories.

With the help of some colorful friends, Dorothy sets out to defend Oz and defeat the Wicked Witch of the West.

Christopher Lloyd plays the Wizard. Also appearing in the movie: Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Lance Henriksen, Mia Sara and Ethan Embry.
