Lady Antebellum continues sell-out streak
By Kevin Coffey
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Lady Antebellum may not know what it's like to perform to empty seats.

At least not around here, where their last two performances as well as their upcoming show Saturday have all been sold out.

IF YOU GO:

Who: Lady Antebellum with Darius Rucker, Thompson Square

When: 7 p.m. Saturday

Where: Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs

Tickets: Sold out

Information: www.midamericacenter.com or 712-323-0551

They opened a sold-out Tim McGraw concert in 2010 where many came not to see the "The Cowboy in Me" singer but the opening band. Then another 2010 concert at the Orpheum Theater sold out as did Saturday's show at the Mid-America Center.

Though Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood have performed and recorded a whole lot of songs, much of the trio's attention has been fueled by one song: "Need You Now." (They did win five Grammys for it, after all.)

It's a heart-wrenching song about two lovers calling each other in the middle of the night. It got us thinking about other great, but sad country and rock songs. Here's a look at some of our favorites. (If you're feeling depressed, maybe you should avoid this list.)

"Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum — "I'm a little drunk but I need you now." Depending on what happens after they hang up, this is one phone call I think they might regret.

"Picture" by Kid Rock feat. Sheryl Crow — "I put your picture away/Sat down and cried today" Another song about late nights, drinking, drugs and missing someone, we're not sure these two should be apart if only for their own health.

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith — "I don't wanna close my eyes/I don't wanna fall asleep." When paired with the sad ending of "Armageddon" (don't roll your eyes ... we know you secretly love it) this poppy rock song is at its most depressing.

"Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails — "I hurt myself today to see if I still feel." This is one dark tune, which made it even more powerful when Johnny Cash did an epic cover of it.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones — "He said I'll love you 'til I die." This is a classic country song and it's a guy who held on to the very end.

"I Hate Everything" by George Strait — "I hate my job and I hate my life/And if it weren't my two kids I'd hate my ex-wife." OK, so it's sort of uplifting in the end, but listening to this guy makes you want to cry your eyes out.
