Mantra to open in Benson; Taxi's expands
By Sarah Baker Hansen
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Mac Thompson is the latest Omaha restaurateur to set up shop in Benson.

Mantra, which he hopes will be open by April, will be near 69th and Maple Streets.

Thompson said his latest venture will be more bar than restaurant, but will still feature a menu with shared appetizers and starters.

"There is a lot going on in Benson," Thompson said. "The menu will be more limited than Taxi's, but offer more in the shared plates."

He described Mantra's vibe as "urban modern," with concrete floors.

The restaurant will serve late on the weekends and also offer Sunday brunch.

Taxi's also will expand in the coming weeks. Thompson said he's adding a new space for private and larger parties. The addition will seat between 20 and 25 diners. He's also added 10 parking spaces behind the restaurant.

"We get a lot of requests for private parties, or luncheons or showers," he said. "We also get a lot of large parties on Mother's Day, and we'll use our new space on those days."
