Omaha police on Thursday shot a man backing a pickup truck from a carwash into a police cruiser and toward the officers, police said.
After ramming the cruiser, the driver fled and was pursued by police until speeds exceeded 70 mph and the chase was called off.
The pickup was found abandoned near 107th Street and Brentwood Drive. A man and woman who were taken into custody at a nearby apartment complex were booked Thursday night.
The gunshot injury of the driver, identified as Samuel J. Tague, 22, of Omaha, was not life-threatening, police said. He was booked on suspicion of felony flight to avoid arrest, attempted assault on an officer and theft by receiving. Additional charges were pending, police said.
Officers had been dispatched about 2 p.m. to Typhoon Bay Car Wash, near 96th and Q Streets, to check a suspicious vehicle, though a police spokesman said the report did not say why the vehicle was thought to be suspicious.
The gray pickup was being painted black at the carwash. After the encounter, there appeared to be a half-dozen bullet holes in the driver's door of the pickup.
The passenger, Leslie R. Poston, 22, of Bellevue, was booked on suspicion of being an accessory to a felony. She was released on her own recognizance from custody after she was charged earlier this month with criminally possessing a financial transaction device.
