New chief judge for appeals court

DES MOINES (AP) — The Iowa Court of Appeals has elected Judge Larry J. Eisenhauer as its chief judge.

Eisenhauer, of Ankeny, has served on the court since 2001. He is the seventh chief judge since the Legislature established the appeals court in 1976.

He replaces Chief Judge Rosemary Sackett, who recently retired.

Eisenhauer was appointed to the District Court bench in 1994 and served as District Court judge until his appointment to the Court of Appeals.

As chief judge he will supervise the business of the court, preside when present at a session of the court and serve on the judicial council. He also will continue to write opinions.

Last year the Iowa Court of Appeals issued 1,068 opinions.
