FORT DODGE — A former Fort Dodge police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman he met at a bar has pleaded guilty to extortion in a plea deal.
Galen Hindt pleaded guilty during a hearing Friday. Sentencing is March 27.
Hindt had also faced a charge of third-degree sexual abuse. That charge was dismissed.
Hindt was accused of sexually assaulting the woman in April 2011. He resigned from the force two days later.
Hindt was charged in Webster County last August. His trial was moved to Boone County because of pretrial publicity. It had been scheduled for late March. — AP
