Texting blamed in fatal crash

ST. ANSGAR — A 17-year-old girl was texting when her car rammed into the back of a school bus in north-central Iowa, killing her, authorities said.

Iowa State Patrol investigators checked Allison Smith's cellphone and compared its records against video from the bus. The accident occurred about 3:25 p.m. Nov. 1, about three miles east of St. Ansgar.

Officers said the school bus was stopped on U.S. Highway 218 when Smith hit it. No other injuries were reported.
