Accidental overdose is blamed

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say an accidental overdose of several drugs killed a 19-year-old Western Nebraska Community College student.

Police say toxicology tests show Christopher “CJ” Kohut, of Gering, had several drugs in his system. He was found unresponsive around 10:45 a.m. Nov. 30 in a dorm room at Pioneer Hall on the Scottsbluff campus. He was taken to Regional West Medical Center, where he died.

Scottsbluff Police Capt. Brian Wasson said there was no medical reason for any of the drugs found in Kohut’s system.

Investigators are trying to find out who supplied Kohut with the pharmaceuticals without a prescription.
