Cause of child death investigated

Authorities are investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy after he died unexpectedly Tuesday.

Jack Knight, the son of Jason and Megan Knight, died at his home, according Omaha police. Police were called about 6:45 p.m. to family's home near Blair High Road and North 103rd Street, according to Officer Jacob Bettin, a spokesman for the Omaha Police Department.

Jack was a kindergartner at Cottonwood Elementary. Counselors were made available to his classmates and any other affected student.

Douglas County Health Department spokesman Phil Rooney said the cause of death remained under investigation. He said health officials were not aware of any disease connected to Jack's death that might be a concern to the public. — Sam Womack
