Village Stationery, which was at Countryside Village near 87th and Pacific Streets for 35 years before it closed in 2010, never shut down for good.

Julie Waring, who worked at the retail store for about five years, has been operating the customized stationery part of the business out of her Papillion home since August 2010.

She and husband Mike meet with clients in their "home design studio" by appointment. There's no in-store inventory like the former store.

"I loved working there and I wanted to buy it and run it without all of the overhead costs," she said. "It's going well."

Waring said some of her most popular orders are for wedding invitations and wedding accessories, personalized stationery and holiday cards. She is also working on developing a website.

Several of the company's loyal customers followed the business and the Warings to Papillion.

"I have a passion for this business. It's been around for more than 30 years and I didn't want to let that go," Waring said. "It's an Omaha tradition and we are continuing that."

Have a birthday bagel

Bruegger's Bagels is celebrating National Bagel Day and its 29th birthday by offering customers three free bagels until 2 p.m. today.

Guests must download the coupon from the "Birthday Bash" tab on Bruegger's Facebook page and present it to the bakery cashier at any Bruegger's location.

Pet store opening

The Green Spot, a new, locally owned pet retail store will celebrate its grand opening Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The store, which is located in the Shoppes of Aksarben near 72nd and Pacific Streets, offers natural and organic dog and cat products, a self-service dog wash and the "Spot Lounge," where pet owners can enjoy a cup of coffee and use free wifi while their pets socialize.

During the grand-opening celebration, there will be product samples, in-store giveaways and treats for both pets and humans. The first 50 guests will receive gift bags.
