2 groups drop suit over gun ordinance

Two gun-rights groups have dropped a federal lawsuit against the City of Omaha after the City Council amended its concealed firearm registration law.

The Second Amendment Foundation, the Nebraska Firearm Owners Association and permanent legal resident Armando Pliego Gonzalez sued the city in September. Then, city ordinance prohibited noncitizens from registering handguns.

Pliego Gonzalez, an immigrant from Mexico, said in the lawsuit that the ordinance infringed upon his second amendment rights.

The City Council revised the ordinance in November, allowing legal immigrants to register their handguns.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon approved the city's motion to dismiss the lawsuit Friday.
