A Sarpy County man has been arrested in connection with a child-abuse case involving a six-month-old baby boy with a broken leg and burns to his buttocks.

Authorities said David Coleman, 29, a convicted sex offender, was arrested early Tuesday at the Meadows housing subdivision near Highway 50 and Interstate 80.

Earlier, Sarpy County deputies had been called to the Bellevue Medical Center to investigate possible child abuse of a baby.

Coleman told authorities the burns occurred after he placed the baby on a heating pad, said Sarpy County Lt.Randy Furby.

Authorities determined that Coleman was the baby's caregiver at the time of the injuries, and he was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, said Tricia Freeman, Sarpy County deputy attorney.

Furby said doctors found evidence of past injuries.

The baby's mother, Starr Manza, 26, was cited on suspicion of child neglect.

Coleman is being held on $500,00 bail.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office said the case remains under investigation.
