Bruning's Football Blitz

Republican Senate candidate Jon Bruning hits the football analogy pretty hard in the first major television buy of Nebraska's 2012 Senate campaign. But, this isn't a reprise of the Clint Eastwood/Chrysler advertisement.

In this statewide ad, Bruning talks straight into the camera, while clutching a football on a football field and claiming that families who want to make life better for their children have found the "goalposts keep getting moved farther away" under Democratic President Barack Obama.

He then vows to end "reckless spending" in Washington, D.C.

It's a classic frontrunner's ad. No mention of his two key GOP rivals, State Treasurer Don Stenberg and State Sen. Deb Fischer.

It will be up for three weeks, costing the Bruning camp about $70,000 a week.

Too bad for Bruning that Stenberg isn't playing as nice.

Stenberg's "Good Ol' Boy" Broadside

Can we say less than 100 days?

Republican Don Stenberg is taking an increasingly aggressive stance toward his chief GOP rival, Jon Bruning, as the May 15 primary grows closer.

In his latest broadside, Stenberg has put up a political web site in which he accuses Bruning of "getting rich in office" and being a part of a "Good Ol' Boy Club."

The site is ostensibly billed as a way for voters to get the facts on Bruning.

Expect more of this line of attack from Stenberg, who has increasingly been raising questions about Bruning's character on the campaign trail.
