VERMILLION, S.D. — Amber Hegge, a Crofton, Neb., native, scored 14 points as South Dakota handed the University of Nebraska at Omaha a 58-38 loss Tuesday.
The Mavericks (13-11) scored eight points in the first half, finishing with their lowest scoring output and shooting percentage (23.2 percent) of the season. South Dakota (16-6) didn’t fare much better, shooting 28.2 percent overall and 3 of 27 from 3-point range.
UNO’s 38 points were its lowest total since, oddly enough, a 58-38 defeat to South Dakota on Feb. 1, 2002, when the schools were members of Division II’s North Central Conference.
Heather Pohl finished with 10 points to lead the Mavs, and Jamie Nash added eight points.
The Mavs host Dakota Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Friday.
