LINCOLN (AP) — A Lancaster County judge has announced her intention to retire May 1.
Judge Jean Lovell has held the post since 1999.
Lovell was a teacher in Omaha before completing law school at the University of Nebraska in 1975.
She worked in the Scotts Bluff County Attorney's Office, directed the Governor's Policy Research Office and led the Nebraska Board of Parole before she was appointed as a judge.
The Judicial Resources Commission will determine whether the judgeship should remain in the 3rd Judicial District, which is Lancaster County.
Then nominees will be sought, their qualifications will be reviewed by a screening panel and the names of one or more candidates will be forwarded to Gov. Dave Heineman for his selection.
