NTK (Need to Know)

Good morning. Today is Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.

Roads generally are in good shape for the morning commute, but be alert to patches of ice and fog. And enjoy today's high of 34 - it could be the warmest day of the week.

Among the day's news:

• U.S. Sens. Mike Johanns of Nebraska and Chuck Grassley of Iowa are among Senate Republicans challenging the constitutionality of appointments made last month by President Barack Obama.

• Gov. Dave Heineman is sending a strong message that his proposed tax-cut package won't be derailed by NU's construction plans, including the $370 million cancer research tower at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

• With retail beef prices at near record levels, analysts have more bad news for the steak-and-burger crowd.

• Sports columnist Tom Shatel sat down with coach Bo Pelini after signing day to talk about what has to change to move his Huskers to the next level.
