The Fit List

Shape your life with our fitness reporter Katy Healey

Scroll down to watch Katy demonstrate a few of her favorite lower-body exercises.

TIP 1:

Did you vow to get in shape in 2012? Eat out less? Drink more water? If the excitement of a new challenge has worn off or never quite set in check out stickk.com.

Whether you hope to frequent the gym more often or quit smoking, the website offers virtual “commitment contracts” to help you reach your goals.

The incentive-based program gives you the option to wager your reputation or your money.

First, recruit a referee to hold you accountable. That person will be able to monitor your progress online. Then designate a dollar amount and where you want it to go if you fail.

The financial penalty is optional, but Yale University researchers who created the site found that people with something at stake are more likely to accomplish their goals.

You can enlist supporters to encourage you online, too. To learn more or register, visit the stickK website.

TIP 2:

If you are not totally committed to your workout, the slightest inconvenience can throw you off track.

By being prepared, you won't have an excuse to skip the gym.

Keep spare exercise clothes in your car, store a water bottle at work, and pack a snack in the morning to ease afternoon hunger pains.

TIP 3:

Want to sculpt stronger legs and work off winter weight gain? Add the lower-body moves in the video below to your arsenal to increase your strength and torch calories.
