Stir Concert Cove will kick its annual concert series off with a show from The Shins.

The popular indie band is touring to support its forthcoming album, “Port Of Morrow.”

Rolling Stone gave the album's first single, "Simple Song," four stars and said it's "magnificent" with "an ascending melody (that) will trail you like a double-espresso buzz."

The long-awaited album comes after The Shins' frontman, James Mercer, took a few years away to record as Broken Bells with producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz). Nate Walcott, an Omaha native and member of Bright Eyes, performed as a multi-instrumentalist in Broken Bells for a time.

The Shins will perform at Stir on May 31. Tickets, $35, go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at stircove.com, ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster retail locations and by phone at 800-745-3000.

Listen to two new songs by the band: “Simple Song” and “September.”
