Old cemetery gets sign at last

WISNER, Neb. — Since St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery was established in 1895, it has remained an unmarked rural cemetery.

The St. Paul congregation, whose church building was once located on the grounds north of Wisner, disbanded and joined with Christ Lutheran Church in town in the early 1950s.

Placing a marker at the cemetery gates was always something the cemetery association was going to do, according to Brian Von Seggern, its secretary and treasurer.

The sign became a reality when the parents of a young man recently buried at the cemetery inquired about such a possibility.

Recently the cemetery association set in place a metalwork marker created by Joe Sharp of Beemer, owner of Sharps Welding.

It took Sharp two weeks to create the sign, and 2 yards of cement to secure it.

"It'll be here long after we're gone," Von Seggern said.

Several anonymous donors assisted with money for the sign.

Neighbors with tractors and loaders gave Sharp and Von Seggern a hand in setting the sign in place.
