The Metropolitan Community College Foundation recently awarded its first Inspiring Innovation Mini Grants to three faculty-staff projects. The $3,000 grants went to:

» Great Plains Theatre Conference MainStage play publishing and video: The conference will publish and videotape the readings of the five MainStage plays and use them in the college's theater program. The publication will become a textbook, meeting the demand for fresh works.

» Math assessment tool: This measuring aid can be used in a variety of classes to help students improve their ability to accurately read a ruler, understand fractions and meet the basic needs of industry. Funds will purchase additional tool kits.

» Entrepreneur blue sky fund: The fund will give students from any program area access to funding of between $100 and $500 to enable them to pre-test, research, start, sustain or build an entrepreneurial or innovative endeavor.

Restored Hope, an organization committed to providing a transitional living program for homeless women and their children in the Omaha community, has been awarded a $3,500 grant through eBay Foundation's Omaha GIVE Team program. Funds will be used for materials to renovate bathrooms in seven of the homes on the Restored Hope campus.

Nadia Maudhoo of Omaha recently won the Regional Division of the Music Teachers National Association's Senior Strings Competition in Boulder, Colo. She is the daughter of Subash and Megumi Maudhoo. She will be in New York City March 24 to 28 to compete as a national finalist.

Mohit Jain, a senior at Millard North, has been chosen president of the Youth Council of the Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross. He also is a new, local representative on the American Red Cross National Youth Council: Jain was elected to be one of 13 members nationally on the council. He is the first local member to be appointed to the council.

The Frozen Ropes Tigers 13 Black team recently placed first in the 13 Major division at the MLK Super NIT baseball tournament in Riverside, Calif. This Super NIT is a qualifier for the Elite 32 World Series to be held Aug. 5 to 11 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The Frozen Ropes Tigers 13 Black teams is made up of 13-year-olds from Omaha.
