Omaha South ran out of timeouts Thursday night long before Omaha Central ran out of spurts.
The top-ranked Eagles defeated South 82-64 for their 20th consecutive win of the season and 28th dating to February 2011.
"I want to see somebody stay with them for a half and get Central to play anxiously,'' South coach Bruce Chubick said.
It wasn't going to be his team in its third game against the Eagles this season. Central led 13-2 and Chubick had used three of the team's five timeouts before the game in Central's Eagle Nest gym was five minutes old.
"We were going to take (timeouts) in four-point increments so we wouldn't let them go on their runs," Chubick said. "We still got into a hole."
South's final timeout came with 2:12 left in the first half while trailing 34-24. Central led 40-26 at halftime and used a 9-0 run in the third quarter to go ahead 55-32. Central's largest leads were 25 point twice in the fourth quarter.
"I thought we had some good spurts,'' Central coach Eric Behrens said. "We turned it over too much, though, and we weren't tough enough defending inside the paint."
Central's seven-man rotation had four double-digit scorers, led by junior Kevin Scott's 19 on 8-of-11 shooting. The transfer from Omaha Benson broke into the Eagles' lineup for the first time last week against Millard North.
"He played well at Millard North,'' Behrens said. "He's pretty explosive."
Darian Barrientos-Jackson had 16 points and eight rebounds, Tre'Shawn Thurman 15 points and Akoy Agau 10 points and eight rebounds.
Central shot 62.3 percent, making 33 of 53 shots.
No. 4 South (13-7), which scored the most points this season on Central, got 22 from Cam Williams albeit on 6-of-22 shooting. He was 9 of 10 at the line.
Tyler Hall had 15 points and Treston Mayo 10 for the Packers.
