KEARNEY, Neb. — University of Nebraska at Kearney football coach Darrell Morris announced the names of 26 high school seniors and one transfer who will play for the Lopers this fall.
More players will be added in the coming months.
This first group of newcomers features 17 Nebraska natives, six Coloradoans and one player each from California, Florida, Kansas and Nevada. By position, the group breaks down to eight offensive linemen, four defensive backs and four linebackers, three defensive ends and three quarterbacks, two athletes, a kicker, running back and wide receiver.
Norfolk Catholic's Drew Farlee comes to UNK after a record-breaking career as a kicker. He finished his prep career with a state-record 237 kicking points.
With four-year starter Jake Spitzlberger's graduation at quarterback, the Lopers brought in three players at that position, including junior college transfer Sam Hutsell. The Florida native has three years of eligibility remaining and is currently enrolled at UNK. Other QBs already on the roster are senior Kevin Romero and redshirt freshmen Aric Kaiser and Chris Tyler.
QB Sean Flanagan, of Golden, Colo., is the younger brother of Loper receiver Tommy Flanagan.
Another family connection belongs to defensive end Dexter Becker of Southern Valley. His older sister, Megan, was an all-conference basketball player for the Lopers.
