The last few months had been stressful for Nebraska commit Jordan Westerkamp, but he helped take some of the pressure of himself, when he announced Monday that he'd be staying with Nebraska.
"I knew at the end of the day I had to follow my heart and do what I wanted to and not what other people wanted me to do," Westerkamp said. "I just love Nebraska. I followed my heart."
The decision ends a prolonged recruiting battle between Nebraska and Notre Dame in December. The Fighting Irish offered Westerkamp at the beginning of the month and the talented wide receiver took a visit to South Bend on Dec. 16.
Nebraska coaches Rich Fisher and John Garrison visited Westerkamp in suburban Chicago on Thursday night. Westerkamp and his family visited with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Chuck Martin on Friday.
Westerkamp said he feels very comfortable with his new position coach in Fisher.
