Huskers roll, improve to 7-0 in duals

Fargo, N.D. — After a combined eight major decisions and one technical fall, the No. 16 Nebraska wrestling team completed its weekend sweep through the Dakotas with Sunday's 31-6 win at North Dakota State.

The Huskers, who defeated South Dakota State on Saturday, improved to 7-0 in duals, with six of the wins coming on the road. In the two duals, the Huskers outscored their opponents 68-9.

On Sunday, it started with a loss by Nebraska's Shawn Nagel at 125 pounds, but finished with nine straight wins. No. 17 Ridge Kiley got the streak started with his second major decision of the season, beating Justin Solberg 10-2 at 133 pounds.

Redshirt freshman Robert Kokesh won his 11th bonus-point match with a major decision over Tyler Johnson at 165 pounds. Kokesh fell behind 2-0 after an early Johnson takedown, but responded with an escape, a takedown and a 2-point near-fall to gain control of the match in the first period. Kokesh is 14-2 this year and has won all seven dual matches.

Seniors James Nakashima (197) and Tucker Lane (heavyweight) finished the dual by recording major decisions. Nakashima defeated John Gusewelle 10-2 for his ninth win of the year, while Lane dominated Evan Knutson 10-1. With the victory, Lane has won 13 matches this season and is nine victories away from becoming the 20th member of the 100-win club at NU.

Junior Tyler Koehn (174) used a second-period surge to defeat Kurtis Julson and extended the Huskers' lead to 20-6. Koehn held a one-point advantage after the first period, but recorded an escape and a takedown in the second period to extend his lead to 5-1. Fellow junior Josh Ihnen (184) used four first-period takedowns to defeat Mac Stoll 11-4.

The Huskers return to action Dec. 29 when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a pair of matches against Boise State and Arizona State.
