FIELDS OF LOVE

It was a country wedding packed with the essentials for a good time: beer, barbecue, live music, help-yourself margaritas and lots of family and friends.

Michelle Adams and Roger Olson, who live in rural Firth, Nebraska, made their wedding a community-wide affair. “Being from a small town you feel like you cannot leave anyone out, so we invited almost everyone,” says Michelle.

The couple exchanged vows in a gazebo overlooking a lake on property owned by the bride's parents. A solo violin played as Michelle and her dad walked along a winding brick path to the gazebo.

Michelle's mom put a lucky penny in her daughter's shoe for “something old.” The bride's “something blue” was a Swarovski Crystal butterfly, a gift from her grandmother. “It was very special because my grandma is my best friend.”
The ceremony was followed by a 350-person reception under a big white tent in the middle of a field.

“Perfect weather. No rain, no nothing. We were lucky,” says Michelle. Flowers from Michelle's garden were used in centerpieces assembled by family members the night before the wedding.

Friends surprised the newlyweds with a ride on an antique tractor pulling a trailer with a “Just Married” sign. “We had a great time!” Michelle says.

Michelle and Roger now are living on her parents' property where they were married. Every day is a sentimental reminder of their wedding day.

SWEET ASIDE

How he proposed: It was a joint decision with separate announcements to their families in mid-April. Roger told his family in a table prayer during Easter dinner. They surprised her family, including her brother who plays football for Nebraska, at the Huskers' Spring Game in Lincoln. “We told everyone by holding up a sign at a tailgate party. We took the sign into the stadium and held it up for my brother to see from the field. It was an awesome day.”
Favorite wedding-day moment: When family members surprised them with fireworks at the end of the night.
