Omaha Fashion Week, Day 2: Tinsel, washers, satin, tulle

Noticed: Designer Angela Balderston opened the second Fashion Week catwalk show with beautifully constructed pieces. Dresses were made of bubble wrap, tinsel, plastic Hawaiian leis, and chains and metal washers.

Other designers had lots of satin, tulle and lightweight flowing material. And 14-year-old Kate Walz received a standing ovation for her 12-piece Just Because evening wear collection.

Overheard: "I'm impressed with the designers, but not so much the appearance of spectators," said Cindy Hoover, owner of All About Me Boutique near 10th and Howard Streets. "There is so much creativity here. Appearance is a good way to show support."

Watch for tomorrow: Chessna Fernald, 21, will show 11 outfits, including three menswear looks, in her "d0ll h0spital" line. Her designs are mostly white and medical-inspired. She'll used some unorthodox material, like hardware, and have "just really clean-cut straight lines, stark and hospital-esque."
