Jansen to be Creighton counsel

Former Douglas County Attorney Jim Jansen has been named Creighton University’s general counsel.

Jansen, most recently a lawyer for McGrath, North, Mullin & Kratz, was Douglas County attorney from 1991 until he resigned in 2003. He resigned six months into his fourth term to take the job at the Omaha firm.

“Jim possesses the talent, skills, commitment and understanding of the Creighton mission,” said Rev. Timothy R. Lannon, CU’s president. “Respected and admired in the Omaha community, he will be an asset to our leadership team.”

In 1995, at the mandate of the Nebraska Legislature, Jansen helped form Project Harmony, a one-stop center designed to reduce the trauma on child-abuse victims. Jansen also served as co-chairman of the first domestic violence coordinating council, a similar effort to strengthen domestic violence prosecutions.

Jansen received his law degree from Creighton in 1973. His start date has yet to be determined, university officials said Sunday.
