Event gets off to a stylish start

Noticed: Several shades of purple, ruffles, tassels, one-shoulder jersey knits with interesting cut-out sides, high collars, mismatched patterns (example: pairing of floral prints and stripes), lots of crushed velvet holiday and bridal wear.

Overheard: "Despite all the months of preparation, it still blows me away of the level of talent in Omaha," said Nick Hudson, executive producer of Omaha Fashion Week. "I'm still really impressed."

Watch for tomorrow: Kate Walz, a 14-year-old Millard North freshman, shares 12 pieces from her "Just Because" clothing line.
