Ooh la-la! Omaha Fashion Week is quickly approaching. The six-night celebration of the city's retail, salon and design communities kicks off Monday and runs through Aug. 27.
For local designers and models, it's a resume booster like no other — an opportunity to share intimate designs, cultivate culture and bear the label of "rising talent."
Fashion lovers, are you ready?
Forty designers with Omaha connections (who either currently live here or were born and raised here) will show their newest collections in a series of nighttime fashion shows Monday through Friday inside Nomad Lounge, 1013 Jones St.
The main event is Saturday's Grand Runway Finale Catwalk, an 8 p.m. fashion show in the Old Market. A 350-foot, L-shaped platform will be set up partially on 10th Street and continue along Jones Street between Ninth and 11th Streets.
Nearly 6,000 people attended Fashion Week last year. Women and men glam up and have dinner before making their red carpet entry. Organizers are predicting that about 2,500 spectators will jam into seats and along walkways for Saturday's catwalk.
Things to look for:
Maximillian Suiter and Kate Walz are two of the youngest designers with evening wear.
Speaking of young, so are many of the models — some on Saturday's catwalk will be as young at 14.
Yolanda Diaz will place dozens of pint-size children models in frilly dresses Thursday.
Prepare to be wowed by favorite male designers Kevin Steward and Dan Richters. In previous years, Richters has introduced mythical creatures and disco dresses made from broken CDs.
Sabrina Jones, known for her bridal gowns, will introduce a new line of swimwear. And, of course, lots of bridal wear.
Expect to see lots of ruffles, lace, sheer, tulle and chiffon accents in collections this year.
