DESERT BACKDROP
STORY BY THERESA FARRAGE

Megan Heald moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, after graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At about the same time, Troy Tracy relocated to Scottsdale from his native Springfield, Neb. Their paths wouldn't cross until a few months later at a mutual friend's wedding in Lincoln.
“Upon returning to Arizona, our first date was watching the Missouri versus Nebraska game,” Megan says. “While we now live in Arizona, we still have strong roots in Nebraska. It will always be our home.”
“We decided to get married in Scottsdale because we were living there. We thought it would be an ideal location for our families and friends to visit in the spring.”
Megan and Troy's inspiration for their March 19, 2011 wedding came from the Arizona landscape.
“This is why we decided to pick a venue where the full beauty of Arizona could be absorbed. The other small decisions, such as the colors (black, white and silver) and decor, were guided by this same theme, coupled with our collective classic and relaxed style.”
How he proposed
The bride told us: The day Troy proposed did not start off well. We had started looking at houses, and we had just received word that the house we liked was no longer available. I was disappointed, so I did not think anything of it when Troy said he had made dinner reservations for that night. We had been hearing rave reviews about this particular restaurant, but hadn't yet been able to try it. So this started turning my mood around.
After having dinner, we returned home. We opened a bottle of wine, and sat with our feet dangling in the pool. Troy and I were laughing and talking when he leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Will you be my wife?" I thought he was joking, so I told him to stop it. His expression changed to a more serious one, and he asked again, "Will you marry me?" I looked at him with tears in my eyes. He told me that he had the ring in his pocket, but he was too scared to get it out because we were so close to the water (plus, we had nearly finished the bottle of wine).
We waited until the next morning, which happened to be Father's Day, to surprise our parents and friends with the news.
Most memorable moment of the wedding day - When we saw each other for the first time . . . It was an emotional and spiritual moment that neither of us will forget.
