Lincoln Southeast's passing game was more about quality than quantity Thursday night against Bellevue West.

The third-ranked Knights completed only three passes, but two of them went for long touchdowns in a 31-7 victory over West at Seacrest Field.

Derrius Vick launched scoring tosses of 44 and 46 yards to speedy receiver Desmond Robinson as the Knights improved to 3-0 on the year.

"They were crowding the line and we thought we could maybe hit a big pass play," Southeast coach John Larsen said. "We have some receivers with decent speed and Derrius made two good throws and Desmond made two good catches."

The first of those scoring plays came after West had taken a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. A 69-yard scoring drive was aided by a Southeast roughing the punter penalty and West capitalized when Caleb Heim hit Dominique Mays on an 8-yard touchdown toss.

After a West fumble in Knight territory, Vick and Robinson hooked up for a 44-yard scoring strike to tie the game with 7:25 left in the half.

After tying the game with his arm, Vick put the Knights ahead with his foot as he drilled a 42-yard field with just 15 seconds left in the half.

On Southeast's first possession of the second half, Vick found Robinson behind the West defense for a 46-yard scoring play to push the lead to 17-7 with 6:21 left in the third quarter.

"That gave us a cushion and forced their hand offensively," Larsen said. "Then we were able to start running the ball better in the second half."

A bad snap on a West punt attempt set up Southeast's next score, a 15-yard burst by Nate Tromblee on fourth down.

The final tally of the night came on a 1-yard run by Jared Cooper that capped a 21-play drive, all on the ground, that burned up over 10 minutes.

Cooper complemented Vick's aerial attack with 106 yards rushing on 28 carries.

West's offense struggled most of the night, gaining just 60 yards on the ground and turning the ball over three times. Starting I-back Tim Neal, who already has two 100-yard games to his credit this season, sat out the second half with an ankle injury.

"We just weren't very good offensively," West coach John Faiman said. "We had some unfortunate things happen."
