2:40 p.m.: Give Nebraska basketball coach Doc Sadler credit for swinging hard and looking for a home run during recruiting.
Last weekend, the Huskers hosted 6-foot-5 wing Aaron Thomas from Cincinnati, who is ranked 49th on the rivals.com list of the top 150 prospects for 2011. Thomas also is considering Cincinnati, Clemson and Florida State.
Today, Sadler was scheduled to travel to San Antonio to meet with 6-8 power forward Jonathan Holmes, who is No. 83 on that list.
Holmes has nearly 20 scholarship offers besides Nebraska's, including Florida, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Illinois, Arkansas and Oregon.
About a month ago, Holmes indicated he wanted to attend Texas or Texas A&M. But his parents have kept his recruiting open, and Sadler is trying to get Holmes to visit.
The hook is that Daryl Holmes, Jonathan's father, was a walk-on football player at Nebraska from 1976-80. After a visit to Lincoln and a meeting with Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne, who knows what might happen?
It's just nice to see a Nebraska basketball coach attempting to recruit some big names. The previous head coach, the Invisible Man, openly said he wouldn't consider trying to woo anyone out of the top 250 recruits.
