CHICAGO — Kris Clark and Jose Gomez scored second-half goals to lead the Creighton men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory against Loyola Chicago on Wednesday night in the Bluejays’ season opener.

Clark scored first, knocking in his only shot of the second half at the 62-minute mark on an assist from Dion Acoff.

Gomez followed with his unassisted goal at the 69-minute mark.

Creighton allowed only two shots. Junior goalie Brian Holt collected the shutout, the 21st of his career in 36 starts.

“I thought it was a nice start for the team,” first-year CU coach Jamie Clark said. “Hopefully we are able to build a little momentum from this, which is something we are trying to do each day.

“After a tough first half, we were able to open things up in the second half. You have to fight through 45 minutes sometimes, and we did just that to earn a road win.”

The Bluejays will host North Carolina-Greensboro on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
