    WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Creighton gears for rugged nonconference schedule

Coach Jim Flanery and the Creighton women’s basketball team will face another tough nonconference schedule, including games against eight postseason teams and two Sweet 16 teams, as CU announced its schedule.

The Bluejays open the season in Raleigh, N.C., for the Wolfpack Invitational. The Jays tip off the season on Nov. 12 against Liberty, an NCAA tournament team in 2009-10. The next day, CU will face the College of Charleston or host North Carolina State. The College of Charleston played in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitational last year, and N.C. State was an NCAA tournament team.

Following the Raleigh tournament, the Jays will head to Bowling Green on Nov. 15. The Falcons have won six straight Mid-American Conference titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament last season.

CU opens its home schedule Nov. 20 against Wyoming, a WNIT team last season, then hosts Marquette on Nov. 28.

The Bluejays travel to play at South Dakota on Dec. 2 before facing two straight Sweet 16 teams — Nebraska (Dec. 8) and Notre Dame (Dec. 11).

Nebraska, coming off its best season in school history, will be playing in Sokol Arena for the first time.

On Dec. 22, the Bluejays will play just their second regular-season game at Qwest Center Omaha when they host Kansas as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. The CU men will play Samford that night.
