COZAD, Neb. (AP) — An 8-year-old boy was fatally injured in a traffic accident on Interstate 80 in south-central Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Michael Reyna of Lexington died after the crash Wednesday night near the Cozad interchange.
Patrol dispatcher Linda Hormandl says the boy was driving with 36-year-old Alicia Reyna. Hormandl didn’t know whether Alicia Reyna was the boy’s mother or otherwise related.
Hormandl says the Reynas were headed west a little after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when Reyna lost control on the icy pavement. The car left the roadway and rammed into a tree.
Troopers say neither of the Reynas was wearing a seat belt.
Hormandl had no word on the extent of any injuries suffered by Alicia Reyna.
