The South Sioux City sophomore guard scored 22 points as the Cardinals defeated defending state champion Ralston 65-55.
* * *
Q: What was the team’s attitude Friday, taking on the defending champs?
A: We were really up for the game. We knew they were really competitive because we had played them once already this season (a 61-56 South Sioux win).
Q: Were you excited about playing Ralston?
A: We were excited, but we didn’t want to worry about playing them. We just wanted to go out and play our game.
Q: What was the most important aspect of the game?
A: Getting off to a good start. We were able to do that, which was really big.
Q: How does it feel to reach the state final?
A: It’s really flattering. It’s something we worked hard for all year.
Q: The South Sioux girls have won 11 titles, and the boys are playing for their first. Does that bother you?
A: No. The girls have done great, and this is our chance to get that first one.
Q: How do you feel when opposing fans are screaming at you during games?
A: Really, I don’t even notice it. I usually try to block it out while we’re playing, and then I hear the fans after the game.
Q: How many Division I offers have you received? And from who?
A: Five. Nebraska, Creighton, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Iowa.
Q: When do you think you’ll decide?
A: When I feel the moment is right. I’m not going to rush anything.
