NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) — The suspect in a Norfolk slaying is scheduled to stand trial next month on charges that he threatened the woman police say he killed Wednesday.
Leodan Alarcon-Chavez is suspected of stabbing to death 30-year-old Maria Villareal. He remains in custody.
Police say Villareal was found suffering from several wounds about 6 a.m. Wednesday by officers responding to a reported disturbance at a Norfolk apartment. She died at a hospital.
Court documents say Alarcon-Chavez threatened Villareal with a knife on Dec. 28.
The Madison County public defender's office represents Alarcon-Chavez in the December case, but had not yet been appointed in the murder case.
