Motorists may be happy when they see potholes being filled. But they also need to be a little tolerant while the work is under way.
Because repair workers are constantly moving from one pothole to another, they often don’t erect a barricade with flashing lights to warn motorists of the work.
“It’s a dangerous job, especially in major traffic areas,” said Pat Miller, street operations director in Council Bluffs. “That’s why we put a truck in the back, to protect those workers from being hit.”
Miller said he had not heard of instances in which his workers were nearly struck by vehicles, but “we’ve had incidences where people were rude.” — Tim Rohwer, World-Herald News Service
