Seventeen people have applied for Chuck Sigerson's northwest Omaha City Council seat, the city clerk's office reports.
The deadline for applicants was 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The vacancy occurred when Sigerson submitted his resignation last month, citing health reasons. His successor will serve out the remainder of his term, until spring 2013.
The council is scheduled to interview the candidates and vote April 13 on Sigerson's replacement.
