ST. LOUIS — Sam Maniscalco scored 31 points and Bradley went on a 14-0 run late in the second half Friday in posting an 81-62 win that knocked Creighton out of the Missouri Valley tournament.
The loss at the Scottrade Center snapped a three-game winning streak for the Bluejays and left them 16-15. Bradley, beaten twice by Creighton during the regular season, improved to 16-14 and advanced to Saturday's semifinals against Northern Iowa.
The Braves were clinging to a 55-51 lead before going on the spurt that decided the game.
Kenny Lawson led Creighton with 17 points, while Josh Jones had 11 and Justin Carter added 10 for the Bluejays.
Maniscalco, a junior guard from Chicago, made 5 of 10 shots from the field and 18 of 19 free-throw attempts. The Braves also got 14 points from Andrew Warren
Creighton, down by a point at the half, scored the first four points of the second half, all on free throws, to take a 35-32 lead. By Bradley regained the lead on Chris Roberts' dunk off a rebound, and founding itself with a 40-35 lead with 13:15 left after baskets by Maniscalco and Roberts.
Cavel Witter's 3-point basket made it a two-point lead and was Creighton's first of the second half after seven straight misses. Bradley countered with a 13-6 run that featured a 3-pointers by Dyricus Simms-Edwards and Maniscalco and a three-point play by Jake Eastman.
Maniscalco's 3-pointer gave Bradley a 53-44 lead with just more than nine minutes to play. Creighton got a 3-pointer by Josh Jones and a follow by Justin Carter to trim Bradley's lead to 53-49.
Creighton was still within four after Antoine Young's basket but Bradley used eight straight free throws, six by Maniscalco, to ignite its decisive run that left it with a 69-51 lead with 5:11 to play.
Creighton stormed out of the game in taking a 9-0 lead and still was ahead 31-24 when Lawson made a 3-point shot with three minutes left in the half.
The Braves then went on an 8-0 run that saw Maniscalco bury back-to-back 3 point shots. After Josh Jones missed a 3-pointer for Creighton, Warren scored on a jumper to put the Braves ahead 32-31 with 58 seconds left in the half.
That marked the first time Bradley led in more than 99 minutes against Creighton this season. The Bluejays had led wire-to-wire in their two regular-season wins.
Creighton stormed out of the gate, getting two baskets from Lawson, a layup by Jones and a 3-pointer from Ethan Wragge to take its 9-0 lead. Another 3-pointer by Wragge put the Bluejays ahead 15-8 just before the first official timeout of the half.
The Braves closed within 15-12 but an 8-2 run put Creighton up 23-14 with 7:37 to play. Bradley used a 9-0 run, with Maniscalco scoring five points, to tie the game 23-23 with 5:42 remaining in the half.
Two Lawson free throws, a Jones 3-pointer and Lawson's basket from beyond the arc put Creighton ahead by seven before Bradley mounted its late charge.
