Couple ProfilesA THOUSAND WORDS PHOTOGRAPHY Katy Dellicarpini & Joel KardellConsidering that one of their first dates three years ago was a trip to Joslyn Art Museum, it made perfect sense that Katy Dellicarpini and Joel Kardell were married in the museum's new sculpture garden in July. However, when they were planning the wedding last year, the site was nothing but dirt. It wasn't even on their wedding radar. Several attempts at securing other outdoor locations failed because of size or availability (they were intent on having a morning wedding), and that led the couple in the direction of Joslyn. “We figured we'd try Joslyn to see if they had an outdoor area, and we were informed the garden was to be finished by June and we could have our ceremony as early as 8 a.m. on July 25,” said Katy, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “We loved the idea of having our ceremony around the reflecting pool. It was so beautiful, and there was plenty of room, even with the (string) quartet.” Joel and Katy stood at the front of the reflecting pool, with guests sitting on either side angled toward them. The arrangement incorporated the beauty of the garden and the museum bathed in the morning sunlight. The five bridesmaids and one junior bridesmaid wore kiwi dresses with mocha accents. The four groomsmen wore James Bond tuxedos. As wedding favors, colorful fans were given to the 250 guests to cool themselves in the July sun. Following the ceremony, Joel and Katy received their guests at the Omaha Press Club atop the First National Bank Building in downtown Omaha. The Press Club's proximity to the museum was ideal, the bride said. “And the view overlooking Omaha is incredible.” The newlyweds considered having the reception outdoors but decided against it because of the potential of a hot day. Katy and Joel, who met at Bible study at Brookside Church, are making their home in a 1920s bungalow in Elkhorn. The bride is a registered nurse in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Joel is a project coordinator with Midco Supply Co.
