Idea Show

Sweet Occasion, Spring/Summer 2009

Ryan Leichliter and Krystal Kohrs planned their wedding reception around their favorite desserts.

“Ryan and I are both artistic and wanted our wedding and reception to be a special experience. We wanted to create new traditions that had meaning to us.”

The setting was an old warehouse on the edge of Omaha's Old Market. It had great lighting and nooks and crannies that allowed guests to mingle on the deck, sit in the window seats or gather at tables.

“We opted to serve many of our favorite desserts, rather than the traditional dinner. We had strawberry wedding cake and carrot cake from Wheatfields, fruit tarts from Delice European Bakery and a few favorite cheesecakes prepared by my mom and a friend.”

The newlyweds nixed the DJ, garter toss and dollar dance. Instead, they created a playlist of Sinatra-style songs (Frank, not Nancy) and played the selections from an iPod.

Kohrs said guests seemed to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. “A few people even thanked me for not pulling the single-guys-come-up-front stunt.”

The newlyweds mingled with their friends and family for so long that Ryan's nieces and nephews begged them to leave so the children could throw their flower petals.
