Idea Show

Some Like It Hot, Spring/Summer 2009

Rachael Stokes and Adam Logan staged a small afternoon wedding at the Omaha Community Playhouse and then moved the party to the French Café in the Old Market.

The Playhouse, the bride said, was perfect because the couple had just moved back to Omaha from Charleston, S.C., and didn't have ties to a local church. “We aren't hugely religious anyway.”

With guests assembled in the theater lobby, Rachael made her way down the grand staircase for the start of the ceremony. “Like I didn't love that entrance.”

Ninety guests joined them for a 5 p.m. dinner at the restaurant.

“Our biggest issue was designating who got what meal,” Rachael said. She solved the dilemma with personalized gift bags that doubled as placecards. Waiters knew whether to serve a beef, chicken or vegetarian entrée simply by eyeing the color-coded bags at each place setting.

Inside the gift bags, guests found a bottle of hot sauce. “We just love spicy food,” Rachael said.

The fiery theme carried into their wedding colors of burnt orange and crimson.
