They call it Tiffany blue.

Somewhere between green and turquoise, it's the freshest color in the bridal palette for 2008.

Dustin Volkmer and the former Kristi Bamsey were ahead of the trend, choosing Tiffany blue for their June 2007 wedding in Omaha.

“We wanted a classic color scheme” with a touch of contemporary style, the bride said. “So we chose black, white and Tiffany blue. I thought the color palette would be neutral enough to complement our different venues, and still have personality.”

The couple also wanted a color that would be associated with their wedding. “We've actually heard guests say many months later, ‘Isn't that your color?' ''

The groomsmen wore black tuxes with black-and-silver vests and neckties. The bridesmaids wore black dresses with a Tiffany blue sash at the empire waist.

“The wedding always seems to be about the bride and groom,” Kristi said. “We really hoped to make the day very personal for our guests, as well.”

The Volkmers came up with the idea of custom buttons, which guests received at the reception. Each button featured a descriptive phrase or an inside joke.

“It was a fun way for us to share stories and learn more about each other's guests,” Kristi said. Guests went about the room asking each other, “What does your button mean?''

The bride, a graphic artist, made the buttons as well as their “dot-themed” place cards, invitations, programs, table markers and thank-you notes.

In another emerging trend, the Volkmers placed individual cakes in a variety of flavors at guests' tables.

“Dustin and I went to each table and cut the first piece of cake,” the bride said. “We had about 200 guests, which meant we had many tables to visit. But since we ate first, it worked out quite well.”
