From a Distance

Make an effort to help out-of-town guests feel more at home

Hospitality begins at home when it comes to making life easier for special guests who are traveling to your ceremony.

Hotel
Choose hotels near the wedding or reception site. Guests will have an easier time finding their way to the big event. A hotel is a refuge from wedding activities. Make sure the hotel you choose is quiet and well managed. Guests will appreciate hotels with amenities such as a pool, complimentary breakfast and free Internet access.

Dining
During the many events that take place at a wedding, guests might need to grab a bite to eat. Make a list of recommended restaurants or cafes so they will know where they can get a good meal at a reasonable price. You could even include coupons from your favorite places. This allows your guests to experience local eateries.

Maps
Nobody likes to get lost, especially when attending a wedding. Include a map not only to the ceremony site, but the reception hall and any other locations the guest might need. For example, a comprehensive map with event locations, convenience stores, restaurants and parks will make out-of-town guests feel more comfortable.

Activities
For downtime between wedding activities, guests might appreciate suggestions for fun and interesting activities. Make a list of easy places to visit such as parks, movie theaters, museums — even interesting shops and boutiques. If your guests have young children, include attractions that would appeal to them.

Contact
Tap someone who knows the city well to be a contact for out-of-town guests. This person could be a family member or a friend. Provide this person’s name and cell phone number to your guests upon their arrival.

Finances
The cost of traveling to and attending a wedding can get expensive. Keep your guests’ budgets in mind when choosing hotels, restaurants and activities. Your guests will enjoy their stay more and appreciate your extra effort to hold their expenses to a minimum.
